CMC Electronics Expands InGaAs Hybrid Receiver Optoelectronics Product Family

World-leading InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode (ADP) capabilities now available for MIL/Aero Integrators

CMC Electronics, a leading aerospace supplier with a proven MIL-PRF performance requirements and reliability track record, expands its optoelectronics capabilities with the announcement of expanded InGaAs detector product families and capabilities to speed prototyping and ramp-up for optical system integrators.

CMC Electronics’ expanded catalog of optoelectronics is the latest in a series of investments, including optronics engineering expertise, North American service, and volume manufacturing capacity. The optoelectronics product family, built upon very low-noise InGaAs APD and quadrant PIN detectors, is available for evaluation and customization for applications like:

  • Laser range finding
  • Laser Warning Threat detection
  • Laser spot tracking, guidance, and control
  • Free space optical (FSO) communications
  • Distributed temperature sensing and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)
  • Remote sensing and Differential Absorption LiDAR (DiAL)

The hermetically sealed, flight-ready high-reliability InGaAs detector outperforms the current industry standard in signal-to-noise and responsivity in the 1064 to 1550 nm spectral range. The hybrid receivers are pin-to-pin compatible with legacy detectors for seamless integration easing next-generation performance MIL/Aero systems. CMC Optoelectronics offer the highest sensitivity and speed in its class, allowing for earlier detection and safer response.

Achievable specifications include:

  • Up to 450 MHz bandwidth
  • Up to 100 MV/W responsivity at the minimal Noise-Equivalent Power (NEP) operating point.
  • Differential packaging options including various active area diameters, fiber-pigtailing and -receptacle and optional ThermoElectric Cooling (TEC), automatic gain control, fast overload recovery, and ambient light rejection.

CMC Electronics Product Manager Branko Petrov states, “CMC optoelectronics are under evaluation for a range of laser applications and platforms. Early feedback confirms the InGaAs detectors outperformed our team’s and customers’ expectations. We are excited to collaborate on legacy and new design efforts like these, showcasing our optoelectronics technical roadmap, ready for the toughest mission requirements.”
